Differing types of small utility programs custom-designed
It can be hard for small and mid-size utilities to justify the cost of dedicating specific staff to developing and managing customer energy-efficiency programs. Still, improving energy efficiency isn’t just a nice-to-have. These programs lower customers’ energy bills, help meet kWh savings goals, and advance us all toward a more resilient, climate-smart grid.
Evergreen Energy Partners works with a wide variety of smaller utilities, bringing previously-unreachable technical experts, experienced management, and innovative solutions to bear on their energy efficiency goals. As a comprehensive energy partner, the services Evergreen provides can include planning and implementation; training; prequalification of equipment, products, or technology; customer service; marketing support; and verification of compliance with incentives.
“Hiring Evergreen was the best decision we ever made. We set our goals and they run with them, delivering value programs, reimbursements and higher energy savings. They helped us take the utility in the direction we wanted to go.”
When working as utility consultants, Evergreen offers everything from individual services to full program management. Our network of pre-approved local trade allies means we can tackle almost any product-focused improvement project. The contractors we work with are skilled in lighting, heat pumps, HVAC, connected and smart thermostats, and prime window and door replacement. Here’s some examples of how we’ve partnered with modestly-sized utilities to achieve program success:
- Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) in Redmond, OR contracted with us to offer a commercial lighting program featuring the latest LED and control strategies. In one year, CEC completed 23 projects with $151,000 in incentives, resulting in a projected 1 million+ annual kilowatt-hour savings over the life of the devices.
- Tanner Electric Cooperative’s 17 employees and 5,000 members rely on Evergreen for turnkey management of their residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs.
- With 29 employees providing electricity to 4,400 households in Tacoma, Washington, Parkland Light and Water may not be large, but it has the distinction of being the first mutual cooperative formed in the U.S. (in 1914). Their team asked Evergreen to manage their energy efficiency programs, an affordable way for the utility to maintain a vital link with customers while controlling its costs. With Evergreen’s assistance, Parkland promotes energy efficiency incentives on ductless heat pumps and offers free advanced power strips.
- Evergreen supports Elmhurst Mutual Power & Light’s commercial and residential energy-efficiency programs including lighting, residential ductless heat pump incentives, low-income residential weatherization, a smart power strip program, and commercial refrigeration. Over four years, the lighting incentives program saved commercial lighting customers more than 1 million kilowatt hours, nearly 60 percent of the utility’s total energy savings for the period.
